"Volunteering as a medical missionary on several trips to Africa has demonstrated the need for continued medical missionary work with goals traversing direct patient care and extending to medical student teaching and resident training. The benefit of our approach is the focus on long term results. We achieve this by making a long term commitment to equip the local providers to achieve future independence. The providers who volunteer also benefit from a change in focus, appreciation of what is mundane, and are reminded how little technology or infrastructure is needed in order to demonstrate that you care for a patient, and how to preserve the dignity of being human."
